Eisenach Attractions - leisure
The city of Eisenach features many historical buildings and the Bach House as well as the Luther House are two of it's best known attractions.
The Bachhaus was the first museum world-wide to be dedicated to the life and work of famous German composer Johann Sebastian.
The house is over 600 years old and is located near the place of the house where Bach was born on 21st March 1685. Today, the museum holds several artifacts and a variety of 18th and 19th century music instruments. It's intention is, to provide information about Johann Sebastian Bach and celebrate his music.
The Luther House is one of the oldest and most picturesque half-timbered buildings remaining in Eisenach. Martin Luther is said to have lived here as a pupil during his school days in Eisenach from 1498-1501. Currently, this house is a museum featuring multimedia exhibits relating to the period.
The Wartburg is a castle situated on a hill to the Southwest of Eisenach, overlooking the Thuringian town. It is often associated with the reformation and connected to the life and work of Martin Luther. In 1999, Wartburg Castle was selected to the World Heritage List as an 'Outstanding Monument of the Feudal Period in Central Europe'.
