Many of the sights in Bremen are found in the Altstadt (Old Town), an oval area surrounded by the Weser River. The Marktplatz (Market square) is dominated by the Town Hall in front of which stands the statue of the city's protector, the Roland. Both, Town Hall and Roland are protected by the UNESCO World Heritage.
At the Western wall of the Town Hall is the bronze sculpture Die Stadtmusikanten (Town Musicians) which portrays the donkey, dog, cat, and rooster of the Grimm Brothers' fairy tale.
Bremen has a diverse scene of theatres, the largest of which is the Theatre am Goetheplatz. There are also plenty of established publicly or privately run theatres.
